No Candy + No Mountain Dew = DIET

Sean and I are trying to get in shape, a little late for summer, I know, but it is better late than never. We just obtained a pass to our local rec center and committed ourselves to actually using it. I agreed because they have a daycare that will watch Jack so I can go exercise for an hour. The thought of wrangling him while trying to run on a treadmill...scary. I am honestly excited to have a whole hour to myself for working out, or maybe it is just the thought of having an hour to myself. But with a new exercise program comes talk of a diet. In my case it is more of just cutting out candy and actually eating a vegetable. Ewwww. Sean has more grand ideas of dieting (other than just cutting out his favorite Mtn Dew) than I do. I asked him today for some ideas as to what we can eat while dieting...he is still thinking about that one. Maybe I should go get a book...any ideas from the readers????

Don't you love the leg warmers? Oh I am going to go buy a pair tonight!

A Mini Flander's Family Reunion

Last weekend Sean's family got together at Pineview Reservoir for a little camping and boating. I unfortunately did neither of those. It was sort of a family reunion, but not everyone could make it, so I call it a mini reunion. It was fun to see and talk to those who could make it.

I was a little worried that Jack would be really bored. I forgot to bring toys but luckily the camp ground provided one. There was a faucet right by where our group site was and the entire time we were there he played with it. We did manage to pull him away for 15 minutes to take him down to the beach and play in the water there. He loved that but I would dare to say not nearly as much as the faucet. So funny.

Founders Day Fun

When I think of the pioneers I often think of the kids. What would they do for fun (besides singing and walking...as much fun as that can be)? I imagine that snaps are a sempiternal pastime. Jack had lots of fun with them. We taught him how to throw them hard to the ground but he liked the stomping better.
Here is a picture of Jack and Sarah walking around the neighborhood looking and playing with every single flag.

Birthday Party for Rylee

When there's cake, there's a way! (Sarah's motto) Rylee Miller (my cousin Amber Martin and RD Miller's daughter) just turned 1. We dressed Jack as a tatterdemalion and took him to the party. Here is the picture right before both started flinging the cake like a couple monkeys at the zoo.
They have a couple dogs that Jack loves. Roudy (boxer), and Toby (boston terrier).

Sidewalk Chalk

Jack had some fun with the sidewalk chalk today while I had some fun with the camera.

Though this picture is fuzzy you can feel his emotion as the chalk is taken away and it's time to go take a bath.

One Ring to Rule Them All

Thanks to the fact that we no longer have cable, and that Sean goes swimming every night, I have been able to watch some of MY favorite movies. For the last while I have been watching my favorite trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. Sean would say that he pulled me kicking and screaming to the theater to watch the first one, because well he did. I even remember coming out of that theater scared and vowing never to watch it again. I think it was after we went to the midnight viewing of The Two Towers, that Sean bribed me to go to, that my obsession began. Since then I purchased the extended set of movies, and I was given the set of books which I have read, at least twice. I have watched the majority of the like 10 hours of behind the scenes footage. It was truly amazing to see how they made some of those sets. Plus when you watch them costuming the wraiths and orcs you aren't nearly as afraid of them. I give this series two thumbs way up. I can't wait for The Hobbit in 2011.

Farmington Festival Days

Growing up in Farmington, I'm no stranger to Farmington Festival Days. In fact, the way I talk at these celebrations leads Sarah to believe I'm antediluvian. It really is a lot of fun and a lot bigger than one would think. Here is a picture of (from left to right) Jared Hale, Matt Hale, Myself, and Mason right after the 5k race. Luckily with a 5k race you don't really have to train. I came in with a 25:19 and an 8:08 mile time. This is great considering how out of shape and down right plump I have become. Now where is that massage I was promised?

Jumping Jack

For all those troglodytes out there, I have the cutest little boy in the world...hands down. About two weeks ago we noticed Jack getting down in a crouched position (nothing new) but then he would spring up and not really leave the ground. He has been trying to teach himself how to jump. After days and weeks of practice this is what we have.

Exponentially thinking about this one, he will have at least a 5 foot vertical by the time he's 18 years old. Show me the money!

Fourth of July

Since we were in Park City for the the Fourth of July we decided to catch their parade. It wasn't as good as some of the ones that I have been to, but Jack got a kick out of it and so that is all that matters.

Dad wearing his new kicks and sporting a Kramer like hair style.

Up close of dad's do.

Jack completely exhausted from crying so much the night before.

At the parade.

That night me, Sean, Jack, Jon and Amy headed out for the rodeo in Oakley.

Unfortunately Sean was suffering from allergies and we couldn't stay the whole time. But we did make it back to the condo just in time for the Park City fireworks. Fortunaletly we didn't have to go anywhere to see them, as they were being set off a couple hundred yards from our front door so all we had to do was sit and watch.

Grandma Christensen wondering why the fireworks hadn't started yet.

Relaxing in Park City

Last Monday me, Jack and my mom headed out for a 6 day vacation in Park City. The others came and went as work required. It was sort of a mini family reunion since Matt, Melissa and Gabe couldn't come, so sad. We puff painted on shirts, watched movies, went swimming, went shopping at the outlets, ate a lot of junk and just had a fun time. That is until Thursday when Jack's vaccination from the week before (his MMR, the doctor said it would be 7-10 days before it affected him) started to set in and he got soooooo cranky. The worst I had ever seen him. He cried for 2 1/2 hours one night. I thought I was going to loose it. We still managed to have some fun though.

Mom making her shirt

Meg doing Jack's shirt. She ended up making half of the shirts.

Meg and Brad being silly. I think the caffeine had something to do with it.

Jack reading a book. He decided that if mom and Grandma could do it, so could he.

Swimming at the pool. As you can see Jack loved going up and down the stairs. Didn't even mind the fact that the cement was hot, or that he got scratches on his tummy and legs. He did mind that I stood there and helped him.
