Lucky You

I rented this movie because it was advertised as a chick flick, and I was in the mood to watch one. Boy was I wrong. Huck, played by Eric Bana, is a man who lives in Las Vegas and plays poker for a living. He has family issues, mostly dealing with his father, played by Robert Duvall. Drew Barrymore plays the love interest although you only see her for probably 10 minutes through the whole show. It is sad when your watching a movie and you are completely bored, but that is exactly how I felt. There was absolutely no excitement, the actors did their best with a script that had no depth whatsoever. I would recommend not watching this movie.

Sydney White

Yet another Amanda Bynes romantic comedy. Luckily she pulls it off so well, I don't mind. This movie has allusions to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs...7 dorks! Sydney is heading off to college and is to pledge Kappa like her mother. The evil witch, aka Rachel Witchburn, and Sydney White spending most their time trying to relegate each others throne. The lesson I took from the movie is we are all outsiders or dorks in one way or another even if you see yourself as an elitist. Definitely check this one out if your wife or girlfriend is pressuring you to watch one of their shows. You won't be disappointed. Be sure you watch for the snow white undertones.

When I saw the previews for this movie I knew that it would be a cheesy teen flick. I wasn't wrong. Even though the cheese factor and predictability were high, I enjoyed watching this movie. Amanda Bynes, Matt Long (the hot frat boy) and Sara Paxton (the evil witch) do a great job, but the Seven Dorks steal the movie. My favorite dork was George, played by Arnie Pantoja, who has the best facial expressions and was just hilarious. I would definitely recommend this movie for a date or family night viewing.

Brown Sugar

"When did you fall in love with Hip-Hop?" I've been had. The first time I watched this I thought they were referring to hip-hop the whole time and that was it. Come to find out they talk about hip-hop as a metaphor. I love the beat, the flow, and the feeling this movie has. Taye Diggs is a great actor. Mos Def is the featured hip-hop artist and funny as always. Brown Sugar is a movie of two friends in love with each other but don't know it. As a predictable romatic always is, you can guess the plot line. What really sets this apart is the ability to mainstream an indie menagerie. Dre leaves his cushy sellout record label job to start his own aberrant label. I like this movie quite a bit and would recommend it to anyone. (Except my parents, because they wouldn't understand the jive.)

Physh loves music. So when a chick flick comes along with music in it that he actually appreciates, I get to watch it whenever I feel like it because he secretly enjoys it as well. This movie is fun, it is one of those movies where you wouldn't mind being the person in it. Sanaa Lathan portrays Sidney a girl who falls in love, while living in an amazing apartment in New York and having the job of her dreams. Mos Def and Queen Latifah are hilarious, they add the comic relief when things start to get a little too serious. If you haven't seen it I would recommend it, I mean how hard is it to watch Taye Diggs for a couple of hours? Exactly.

Without A Paddle

Seth Green is one of the best supporting comedic actors I know. How does he do as a lead? Phenominal. Without A Paddle has the best lineup for the script possible. The screenplay writers Jay Leggett and Mitch Rouse combined with the music team really brought this to life. The story is deap. The acting is wonderful. There is one part where the 3 were sans raiment; cold and tired, they had to turn to each other for warmth. Hilarious, especially the music track that goes with it. Rent this or even purchase it. Money well spent. "They're fishing! Well where's their flash lights Jerry!"

Father of the Bride Part II

For some unknown reason I love this movie. My husband has tried to figure it out for years. I just can't help it. One big reason is that I love the house. Everything about it, it is just enchanting. Also I love anything that has to with babies and it is fun to watch as they learn and prepare for the babies. Franck, played by Martin Short, is also my favorite character. How he can keep a straight face while playing this character is beyond me. One of my favorite lines from Franck is when he is trying to drag George out of the house (who just happens to pass out right before Annie goes into labor) and he says - "Gee, if I could change this room... THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO THINK ABOUT THIS FRANCK!" Ohhh, anyway if you haven't seen this one in awhile get it out and stick it in the DVD player. Just ignore the fake pregnant bellies.

27 Dresses

Last weekend my mom called, "Let's go see 27 Dresses." I couldn't get in the car fast enough. I was so excited to spend an afternoon getting lost in a romantic comedy. The movie starts out with the introduction of Katerine Heigl's character, Jane. She is a New Yorker who works her day job well but her true love is helping friends plan their weddings. It is at one of her friends weddings that she meets Kevin, played by James Marsden, a reporter for a New York paper. The story is cute and somewhat predictable, although most chick flicks are. Katherine Heigl pulls off Jane perfectly, I was glad that she never went into damesel in distress mode. James Marsden does a great job and I am just glad that someone finally realized that he is a leading man not a supporting. Judy Greer does a good job as the crazy best friend and has a few good one liners. This was a fun movie and I am sure that I will watch it over and over much to the dismay of my husband.

Prison Break Season 3 Episode 11

Will they escape already. Goodness. Every episode for the past 2 or 3 months has teased with the idea of escaping. The writing has turned from magniloquent to cardboard. Maybe the writers knew the writers strike was coming and started making some horrible episodes to show who's boss. Don't get me wrong, I love Prison Break. The first season was incredible. The second season was almost as good but this season is starting to drag on. Even T-Bag is starting to act like a whimp. This week Michael's plan to escape is thwarted by, get this, rain? Michael is having a hard time with the decision to let a drug lord and a murderer/rapist loose in the free world once again.

The Wendell Baker Story

Scrolling through Red Box at the local Smith's, I happened upon this movie. We rented it, took it home, popped it in the player; I mean, come on, with all the great actors on the roster how bad could it be. Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Eva Mendes, and even a little Will Ferrell all do a wonderful job. The problem lies with the story. Watching the credits at the end points fingers at Luke Wilson for this less than mediocre piece of work. Don't spend your time looking for this one, it's barely worth the buck at Red Box.

Chocolat

"Ban Immorality!" Chocolat is a chick flick to its fullest. No real action scenes. You have many different stories of love happening on all different levels. But what really makes this a chick flick in it's purest form is it's all about CHOCOLATE! Johnny Depp is a pirate (river rat) in this film. This movie is about a woman born into a cursed family. This family passes down the secrets of the Chocolatrie. In this small town that she (Juliette Binoche) makes her stop in chocolate is a sin. It's a story of how she stirs up the town and then has to make a choice when her ancestor tell her it's time to move on. Does she stay in the town that she has many friends in or does she move to the next town? Set in old times, I rather enjoyed this film. Beware; you will want loads of chocolate if you partake.
